BREAKING: NLC vows total shutdown, urge Nigerians to stock food at home

The Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, on Saturday issued a 96-hour ultimatum to the federal government to rescind the deregulation of the downstream sector of the petroleum industry and revert to the old petrol price of N86.50 per litre or face a total shutdown of the economy from Wednesday, Premium Times has reported.

The NLC President, Ayuba Wabba, said if the government failed to accede to the demand by midnight Tuesday, workers would have no option than to call out their members on an indefinite strike.

Although the National Executive Councils of the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria, PENGASSAN, and National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers, NUPENG, on Friday resolved to support the government, Mr. Wabba said the ultimatum to government was the collective resolution of the NECs of the various affiliate unions and civil society groups.

He therefore advised Nigerians to stock sufficient food items for their use as they would not be able to say how long the protest would last.

Removing subsidy is the way forward or what do you think? We cannot continue paying Trillions of Naira to oil marketers as subsidy. With subsidy removal, there would be competition and in no distant time, the oil price will crash.

Let me give you an example, when telecommunication was introduced to Nigeria you would recall that a sim card then was sold for about N20,000 or there about but now, sim card is as good as free why? because there has been competition over time which has crashed the market price. I believe same thing will happen to the oil price.

Things may seem hard now but there will be light at the end of the tunnel.... What is your opinion?
