John Fashanu Endorses Orji Kalu For Fifa Presidency

Former football international, John Fashanu, says he is convinced former Governor of Abia State, Orji Uzor Kalu, has the requirements of contesting for FIFA presidency.

In an interview with Channels Sports on Tuesday morning, Fashanu confirmed that the former governor is yet to decide but he believes he is a credible candidate.

There have been reports on Kalu’s FIFA presidency ambition and Fashanu believes it is about time for Africans to get involved in international football administration.

“He (Kalu) knows what is going on in the world of football and I think he can. If there is anybody who can take on Mitchel Platini, as I know him extremely well, certainly Orji Kalu can do that and I will like to see it, I support that.

“He has not come out to say he would run for FIFA president. That’s very important we clarify that he hasn’t said that at all.

“We the supporters of Orji Kalu, people who know him, who know what he has done, we are saying we believe we have an opportunity to find and to make the first black FIFA President,” Fashanu said.

He also acknowledged the eligibility of the President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Issa Hayatou, for the position but also noted that he had not shown the willingness to leave his position as an administrator on the African continent.

He added also that modern football needs more of Mr Kalu’s experience as a successful businessman.

“Now football is changing, its a business, its a hard money totting business and you have to add success in the business world and I think Orji Kalu certainly has that.”
