Okorocha,Master of Iberiberism on the road to Political Nowhere

You do not judge a book by its cover is an aphorism often quoted to counter deceptive surface appearances where there are layers and layers of onion peels before unearthing the core of a person’s being. Going by the unraveling of outgoing governor of Imo State, Owelle Rochas Okorocha, who would believe that he once aspired to be Nigeria’s president. In fact, he still does, and could be said to coming ever closer to it than ever before since he now has a national image to lean on, even if a comic one at that.

With the Rochas Okorocha Foundation that offers free scholarships to indigent students and his seemingly nationalistic fervour, he sold himself to Nigerians and particularly to Imo people as the political messiah who would cleanse the mess Ihedioha Ohakim made of the state. He has a certain bombastic hallow about himself that creates a looming image of the hero of the poor and helpless. But upon assuming office and a few years into governance, the hollowness of the man began to eme…

The Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) Africa is insisting that Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will win the February 16 presidential election.

“#NigeriaDecides2019 : Less than 2 weeks before #Nigeria‘s presidential election. Abubakar has floated idea of corruption amnesty. It is arguably an impolitic time for such a delicate proposal,” EIU Africa tweeted.

“Abubakar is hard-pressed to convince voters that he is a clean politician, having been on the receiving end of numerous graft allegations in the past.

“We retain out forecast for #Abubakar to win, but expected margin of victory is narrowing as the poll approaches.”

In 2015, the magazine also predicted victory for Muhammadu Buhari over then-incumbent Goodluck Jonathan, stating that Buhari was “the least awful ch…

Alleged Leaked Audio: Yes I Can Confirm It's Ameachi's Voice

Since my brother and friend, the Minister of Transportation, Hon. Rotimi Amaechi started trending with a supposedly leaked audio, where he was heard crucifying his principal, President Muhammadu Buhari, friends and colleagues had sent me different versions, seeking to know if it was his voice. I'm confirming that now. It's his voice.

Oh, they also wanted to know if he actually said those things about the president. Again, he did, clearly not in the context of what has been flying around. What you have been listening to is the doctored version of his encounter with the blackmailers, who had been on his case in over five months, asking for money and threatening to release the tape close to the election period.

So, let's talk about some of the things he said.

In one instance, he said there was poverty in the land in Buhari's three years of leadership and concluded that conversation with the fact that the solution to Nigeria's problems was to kill everyone. Any intellige…
