ON REMOVAL OF SENATE PRESIDENT

The serial attempts to remove the President of the Senate, Dr. Bukola Saraki (PDP/Kwara) from office has continued to raise constitutional, legal and political questions, especially after the botched attempt last Tuesday seeking to sack the National Assembly complex in order to effect an unconstitutional change.

To this end, it is Paramount to take a look at Senate Presidents who have been impeached from 1999- till date and on what grounds they were impeached?
Late Chief Evans Enwerem  The late Enwerem was impeached for alleged perjury and age falsification. He was President of the Senate from June 3, 1999 to November 18, 1999. Having been accused of falsifying his age and academic qualifications, he was subsequently asked to step down. But Enwerem refused, and 90 of 99 senators (in a 109-member Senate) voted to impeach him. Two opposed the motion and the rest were either absent or abstained from voting.
Late Dr Chuba Okadigbo Okadigbo took over from Enwerem and was President of the Se…

OSHIOMHOLE TO SARAKI: Resign Honourably or be Impeached

SARAKI TO OSHIOMOLE: Impeachment Plan Is Mere “Wishful Thinking”

Excerpts from Press Conference held by APC National Chairman and Published by Sumner Shagari Sambo:

Without going back to ancient history, it is important to look at how Senator Bukola Saraki became the President of the Senate. He decided, clearly, against the party position to enter into a deal with the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and got a faction of the PDP, taking advantage of the fact that majority of the APC senators were holding a meeting at the International Conference Centre to resolve the issue of leadership of the senate and other principal officers that are expected to be produced by the ruling party with majority senators.

Because he has put his personal interest over and above the interest of the party, he went into alliance with the PDP and conceded the position of Deputy Senate President to the opposition in other to obtain their supp…

FAYOSE CANT ESCAPE PUNISHMENT FOR ALL THE ATROCITIES HE HAS COMMITTED - SAGAY

Prof Itse Sagay (SAN), the chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption (PACAC), has allegedly said that Governor Ayo Fayose of Ekiti state has committed grievous sins in the last four years and will surely account for his actions someday.
